Asian Grocery Victoria St

I just fancied a laksa with the bottle of Richland Westend Sauvignon Blanc that Karen brought over. But when I opened the cupboard – no laksa paste! As I had no intention of grinding everything in the mortar I hopped on the bus and went 4 stops down the hill to Victoria St.

I love walking along this street with all the Vietnamese signboards. The colours, and the smells, are incredible. Asian Bakeries and Grocers galore!

My mother always told me not to shop for food on an empty stomach. So I grabbed a cheap and satisfying bowl of pho at Thanh Ha before I headed into Huy Huy Groceries at 240 Victoria Street where I picked up my laksa paste plus some beansprouts, tamarind paste and bacang. Then along to Chan Pha’t Chinese Groceries at number 162 for some fresh coriander and dried yam strips.(I would buy up half the contents of an Asian grocery if I could afford it).

It was such a lovely Spring day I could easily have sat outside Tho Tho’s with a beer and a pork ricepaper roll but I stifled the temptation. One day soon ….
